Doreen Falls and Tryme Hill

Friday, 9th April
10 miles, 2,600 feet

Our first visit was to Doreen Falls before heading up the hillside to tackle some scrambles and a ladder. Joining the route of Tuesday's descent we passed Ribbon Falls before walking higher onto the Lower Berg. Our lunch stop was enhanced by the sight of a group of Grey Rhebuck in the distance. Passing a salamander on the way we continued over Tryme Hill, from where we were able to see the full extent of Rainbow Gorge, our first day's walk. A salamander posed for the cameras as the whole group walked by.

Doreen Falls - just catching a rainbow

A few rocks are followed by . . .

a short ladder

We all seek the shade of the rocks for a brief pause

Ribbon Falls, seen initially on the second walk

Mount Helga stands out in front of the escarpment . . .

and Ribbon Falls from a higher viewpoint

The escarpment continues to impress . . .

and at our lunch time stop Claire spots some grey rhebuck in the valley

The easy path gives lots of opportunity to take in the spectacular surroundings . . .

but we need to keep our eyes on the path . . .

to avoid stepping on the salamander

Looking down Rainbow Gorge - our first day's walk . . .

and up to the top of the gorge

A  steep descent is followed by a short walk back to the hotel
