Skirting the base of Tryme Hill we had good views of the valley we had
travelled up to stay at the Cathedral Peak Hotel, 5,000 feet above sea level.
Heading into the gorge we walked through indigenous forest and alongside the
rushing waters of the eNdumeni River. As there had been heavy rain in the days
before we arrived we could not make the intended river crossings and had to cut
the walk short. However, this allowed us time to explore the nearby San Rock Art
Centre at Didima Camp. The San people were an indigenous group of
hunter-gatherers who lived in the Drakensberg Mountains. There are thousands of
cave paintings depicting their lives and experiences.
