Walk: Chipping, Knot Hill, New Laund Hill, Dinkling Green Farm, Lickhurst Farm, Park Style & park Gate, Chipping Laund Farm, and back to Chipping. No major places but a route through isolated farms.
Start Point: Chipping car park Grid Reference: SD 622 433
Distance: 9.2 miles Ascent: 1,063 feet
Time: 5.75 hours
Weather: Grey but dry to start, but after about a mile it started to snow, which persisted all day. It was quite cold, but no real wind to provide a chill factor
Comments: With the organised walks cancelled, Bill and David decided to do a recce of Bill’s walk for the weekend to check out the conditions. The snow that started after we were on the way was quite fine and not the large white out variety. We were therefore able to see our way across the fields to the numerous farms on the route. The going was mainly crunchy snow, although on some of the access tracks to the farms, there was some hidden ice that needed care and best walked to the side. There were no mishaps, and we did not encounter any snowdrifts, although the virgin snow across many of the fields was up to 6 or 7 inches deep. At a number of the farms we met the farmers who were all very pleasant and pleased to have a chat. A very enjoyable day made that much more so with the bleak wintry conditions making it a different experience.
