| Comments: | Although the forecast gave rain, sixteen people assembled at High Dam Car Park. Leaving the car park we passed through the hamlet of Finsthwaite taking note of the unusual shape of the church tower. The opinion was that it may have had Norwegian connections. Leaving Finsthwaite behind, we passed through meadows on the way to Wintering Park and Town End before starting a stiff climb up Great Ellerside. Having ascended a few hundred feet we were rewarded with distant views of Morecambe Bay and distant Lakeland Fells. Our leader deviated from the normal path to show us a seldom visited Boretree Tarn before continuing over Yew Barrow and Rusland Height to High Dam for lunch. After lunch we ascended Stott Park Heights for a view of a wind rippled Lake Windermere. From here we descended to the road and High Stott Park to reach the start point. This time we were lucky in so much that the last attempt of the walk had to be curtailed because of persistent precipitation. Another enjoyable walk. Thank you leader. | ||
