| Walk: | Low Pike, High Pike, Dove Crag, Hart Crag, Fairfield, Great Rigg, Heron Pike, Nab Scar | ||
| Start Point: | Rydal Road | Grid Reference: | NY 365 063 |
| Distance: | 10 miles | Ascent: | 3,600 feet |
| Time: | 6 hours | ||
| Weather: | Very wet, misty and windy for most of the way. | ||
| Comments: | Seven brave souls set off from Rydal
fully clad knowing that the weather forecasters had promised a wet
day and windy day. However soon after we started our ascent of Low
Pike we were surprised to be able to remove our waterproofs only to
be replacing them some 10 minutes later. Unfortunately the forecast
was proving to be correct and from then on it was a case of survival
in extremely wet, misty and occasionally very windy conditions.
Morning and lunch time breaks were kept to a minimum and all
thoughts were focused on getting back to the cars as soon as
possible. There are always bonuses in walking in these conditions - the normally very busy Fairfield Horseshoe was almost deserted and at lunch time we had one of the summit shelters to ourselves. I wonder why? |

Lots of water in Scandale Beck (and elsewhere) today!

What a bonus - didn't expect much in the way of views today, looking over Ambleside and Windermere . . .

and we optimistically take the waterproofs off . . .

but by the time we reach Low Pike . . .

they are all back on!

At High Pike . . .

we are having to battle with the wind as well

No more photos until we are descending from Nab Scar . . .

and are pleased to be almost at the end of this very, very, very wet walk
