| Start Point: | Burnbanks | Grid Reference: | NY 5087 160 |
| Distance: | 11 miles | Ascent: | 2,500 feet |
| Time: | 7 hours | ||
| Weather: | A pleasant sunny day with a welcome gentle breeze on the fell tops | ||
| Comments: | After a walk along the shore path of Haweswater we climbed by the waterfall of Measand Beck and followed the footpath to the footbridge. We then followed the beck up the sometimes steep-sided and empty valley with its many waterfalls, where we quickly spotted 4 red deer. On reaching the summit of Long Grain the deer had increased to 10 and after an easy stroll over Low Raise, High Raise, Rampsgill Head and Kidsty Pike we descended via Randale Beck and spotted even more deer. A short climb took us to Castle Crag, an 'Ancient Brit Stronghold'. A short descent took us back to the shore path and on to the car park. | ||
