Welcome to the Fylde Ramblers Group. We are a group of people from all age ranges, brought together by a love of walking and the countryside.

Our group was formed in 1980, when a public meeting was convened in Wesham and the group was formally launched. In the intervening years the group has faithfully followed the Ramblers Association objectives, vigorously defending local paths and providing a varied walks programme in many parts of the North-west.

On this site you can find details of our walks programme, reports of various walks, news of events, contact details, etc.

This website is funded by the generous bequest of the late Ron Lowe. Ron loved the hills, enjoyed the companionship of the Fylde Group and wanted to leave 'something of benefit' behind.

1935        Ann Render        2010

It is with great sadness that our Group heard about Ann Render who died peacefully in her sleep. She was one of our Grade 2 walkers who refused to slow down with advancing years. She also enjoyed the Rambling Weekends, often accompanied by her late husband, Arthur, to whom she was so clearly devoted.

I always took pleasure in walking with Ann. We shared a common profession, teaching, and not only that, we also shared some pupils in common as she worked as a supply teacher in Marton Schools. On walks we would often talk about the foibles of individual children and put the educational world to right. She was a really dedicated and committed teacher. That always shone through.

Ann not only had a sharp intellect and an engaging personality, she also had a keen sense pf humour. Who can forget her aversion to fording becks (into which she occasionally tumbled), and the day we had to knock on a farmhouse door to get her water bottle filled - caught short again but it was impossible to lose patience with her.

It was heartbreaking to see the deterioration in her health in the final months. Instead I shall always remember her in her prime: flame haired and usually with more than a hint pf make-up; great fun to walk with and a member who will be truly missed.

Our condolences go to her family at this sad time.
